University Computer Services and Support

Services available to students from the University as a whole include:

Free Norton Anti-Virus Software

The Symantec® Norton AntiVirus (NAV) software is free to all faculty, staff and all students enrolled in degree-granting programs of the University for both on- and off-campus computers.

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.5.1 is available for download at: http://www.antivirus.utoronto.ca. You will require your UTORid to download the software. Once downloaded and installed make sure that you update your virus definitions on a regular basis - at least weekly if not more often.

UTORmail

UTORmail is the institutional e-mail service of the University of Toronto providing e-mail access to students, faculty, and staff. All students registered at the University of Toronto are eligible to create their own "@utoronto.ca" e-mail account.

my.utoronto/webmail

my.utoronto provides a community bulletin board with access to information links, announcements, news and events across campus. Students, faculty and staff can customise my.utoronto to suit their specific interests and information needs. my.utoronto also provides a browser interface to UTORmail (webmail).

my.access

my.access allows UofT students, staff and faculty with external internet connections to use licesnsed resources.

  • If you are off-campus, you'll simply be asked to login, using your UTOTid and password or your library card barcode and PIN, the first time you use a licensed resource during each web session. No separate accounts required No browser configuration required No conflict with firewalls, etc.
  • Available anytime, on any computer and browser worldwide. Just close your browser when done.

my.library

my.library is your personal library web space, where you can collect e-journals, library materials, catalogue searches, websites, and any other resources you choose. Faculty members can also use my.library to create online resource guides for their students. my.library is easy to use, with a web-based interface. No html mark-up is required. Items can be automatically added to your my.library page from the Library Catalogue or from the main library's electronic resources.

UTORweb (free personal web pages)

The UTORweb service is now offering Web server space to individual students, staff and faculty at U of T. This space can be used either to store files in a private folder (accessible only to the individual) or to create publicly accessible web pages. Users are given 50 megabytes of space on the UTORweb server which will remain active as long as the individual is affiliated with the University. There is no charge for this service.

Information Commons Help Desk

The Information Commons Help Desk provides telephone and walk-in support to students, faculty and staff for services such as internet connectivity, UTORid, E-mail, UTORweb, a variety of desktop software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The Help Desk also has a searchable Knowledge Base that provides information and solutions for these services.

Telephone assistance is available at 416 978-HELP (978-4357). You can also visit the Help Desk during their hours of service for assistance.

The Information Commons Licensed Software Office (LSO)

The LSO negotiates and administers software license agreements with many vendors in order to decrease overall software costs to the University. The software can be purchased by UofT students, faculty and staff.

The Information Commons Computer Access Facility (CAF)

This Facility is located on the first floor of Robarts Library and is available during regular Robarts Library hours.

Computers and printers are provided for University of Toronto students, faculty, and staff. You will be required to log in using a valid UTORid and password

Library Services computers: provide access to the World Wide Web, UTLink, and e-mail.

Internet Office computers: provide the same services as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).

Design Space computers: provide the same services as the Internet Office computers as well as scanners and image and web page editing software.
