Computers In The Library...

Public Access Computers

5 computers for use by anyone. These computers allow access to the Bora Laskin Library web pages (for legal research), the UofT Library catalogue and the UTORid website only.

Law Commons

27 computers available to any UofT student, faculty or staff member with a valid UTORid and password. 18 of these computers are located on the main floor of the library. There are 8 more computers located on the top floor as well as one in the basement by the elevator.

All of these computers have access to:

  • the Internet
  • Law Library CD-ROMs (available only locally within the library)
  • laser printing (currently 15 cents per page using your UofT student card for printing)
  • word processing (in the form of OpenOffice ) is available on the 9 sit-down computers in the Law Commons area

Law Student Alcove

10 DELL networked computers on the main floor available to only law students, faculty or staff members with a valid UTORid and password

All of these computers have access to:

  • the Internet
  • Law Library CD-ROMs (available only locally within the library)
  • laser printing (currently 15 cents per page if the job is sent to the Law Alcove printer or 10 cents per page if the job is sent to the Lab printer. Requires using your U of T student card for printing)
  • full Microsoft Office suite

Computer Lab

18 IBM networked computers on the first floor. Access is limited to Faculty of Law students who are provided with a password via the student listserv. The computer lab provides a quiet private environment for computer research, word processing and the occasional game of internet poker.

The Computer Lab will also be used for training and classroom sessions that require a computer. Students will be notified in advance when the lab is booked for such sessions via eCommunity, Headnotes, the Library's Plasma display and signs posted in the lab.

Laptops in the Library/Wireless Network

The Bora Laskin Law Library is part of the University of Toronto's Campus Wireless Network (UTORcwn). Wireless access is available on the main and top floors of the library. The basement is a laptop free zone. Students with laptops wishing to connect to the internet may do so via the University's wireless network
