International Trade & Economics International trade and economics is an enormous subject. It covers a broad range of topics, from private commercial transactions between individuals to agreements between governments about matters affecting trade. The agreements that make up the global trade regime encompass trade in goods, trade in services, capital mobility, expropriation of property rights, labour standards and mobility, international monetary stability, and economic development. Numerous organizations - supranational, national, and non-government - are involved in the development and negotiation of agreements, which, as well as the WTO/GATT, include the IMF, World Bank and the now significant number of regional arrangements which include the European Union, NAFTA, ASEAN and APEC. Current hot topics in the world trade area include the entry of China into the WTO, new negotiations over agriculture and services (started during the recent meeting in Seattle) and of course the impact of electronic commerce.
