LegislationWorld LawWorld Law ( Australasian Legal Information Institute ) World Law is a catalog of sites concerning law and a search engine to search the content of those sites. World Law provides links to the legislation of approximately 200 countries as well as including its "Multi-National Legislation Collections" CanadaFederal and Provincial Legislation Internet Sources of Canadian Legislation and Parliamentary Material Links to all Canadian federal and provincial statutes, regulations and legislative information available on the Web. Great Britain and the CommonwealthAustraliaAustralasian Legal Information Institute (ALII)ALII provides access to consolidated copies of all commonwealth of Australia Acts with the exception of Appropriation and Supply Acts. The database is updated regularly and is searchable by a title index or title and text keyword. By clicking on the AustLII icon in the upper left hand corner of the menu page you can access consolidated copies of the State Acts. Great Britain"The Statute Law Database is the official revised version of the statute book for the UK in electronic form. "The statute book" is a term we use to mean all the primary legislation of a public general nature in force at any particular time. SLD is published 'by Authority', which means that it is published with the authority of the Crown. " This site maintained by Her Majesty's Stationary Office provides access to the full text of all new Public General Acts starting from the year 1996. Coverage of full text Local Acts begins from 1997. The Acts are published in the form that they were passed by Parliament and thus do not include any subsequent amendments. By clicking on the "search" button you will be able to do a text search of all on-line documents published by Her Majesty's Stationary Office. In addition to the Acts of Parliament, these documents include all Statuatory Instruments passed pursuant to the Acts beginning from 1997. New ZealandKnowledge BasketThis site provides access to the updated Acts of New Zealand. This database is only searchable by way of the Act's title or date. South AfricaSouth African Government Information This site provides access to South African Acts and Bills starting from 1993. The information is arranged in a chronological order by year and then by the number of the Act or Bill. The database is not searchable by keyword nor are the individual Acts updated with the provisions of any amending legislation. The site provides access to a number of useful sources for South African legal research including the judgement database of the Constitutional Court. United StatesFederal Government Federal statutes compiled as of January 16, 1996. This site, maintained by the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School, consists of a fully searchable database of Federal Laws as they existed on the compilation date. The site also makes available a number of methods with which to facilitate the updating of the Code's provisions by way of the Thomas server of the Library of Congress (see below). ThomasThis Library of Congress server provides access to all legislation passed subsequent to January 16, 1996 along with a wealth of information on the U.S. Legislative process. State Governments Also maintained by the Legal Information Institute at Cornell, this service provides access to state level legal materials of various types. The materials are easy to access as each state page shares an identical format, with the State Codes accessible through the "Statutes" link under the "Constitution and Legislation" heading. Not all State Codes are available on the internet, consequently the "Statutes" link will be inoperative for some states. Since, as the available databases are maintained by the separate State Governments the breadth and quality of the resources varies depending on which jurisdiction you choose to search. ChinaCeilaw, is hosted by the State Information Center, a Chinese central government agency. Most of the contents of this site are in Chinese but some laws and regulations have an English version. The site consists of two major databases: the National Laws and Regulations Data Bank which is a free and searchable database for Chinese laws and regulations from Oct. 1, 1949 to the end of 1996; and the New Laws and Regulations Online Searching which is free for searching but only subscribers can access the text of laws. The New Laws and Regulations database includes a list of laws published in the last 60 days. In addition, the databases include cases and judicial interpretations. Maintained by the Institute of European and Comparative Law at Oxford University, the German Law Archive provides access to a collection of German Statutes in English.
