Entered into force on July 18, 1978, this is the regional human rights instrument for the Americas. Article 1 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex while a limited number of provisions relate specifically to women including those that prohibit the death penalty against pregnant women, and those the prohibit trafficking in women.
