Dr Patricia McMahon
Trish is a second year student at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Prior to law school, Trish earned a Ph.D. in History, also at the University of Toronto, and it was through this program that she learned about researching and managing the dusty resources uncovered in archives. This experience was quite traditional, with the vast majority of sources available only in paper form and very little beyond the basics available on-line. Similarly, the classroom experience was quite traditional, with classes revolving around in-class seminars. While the classroom experience in law school has not differed significantly from Trish's previous experience as an undergraduate and graduate student in History, the research experience could not be more different. The abundance of case law, texts and journals available on-line has changed the way in which she researches as well as the manner in which she uses a law library. Trish has little doubt that > innovation in the classroom will catch up with that in libraries in the not too distant future.
