Banks & Banking Law The law of Banking generally applies to domestic and international providers and consumers of debt financing including, on the lending side, domestic and foreign banks, bank holding companies, leasing companies, finance companies and other financial institutions and, on the borrowing side, corporate, government, institutional, individual and financial intermediary borrowers. It covers topics such as incorporation of banks; all manner of corporate and private lending, financing and refinancing; cross-border and international banking transactions; financial leasing; loans; electronic banking and all matters of a regulatory and corporate governance nature. In Canada, the federal government has the exclusive constitutional power to legislate with respect to banks. CanadaThe Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) Provides information, research, advocacy, education and operational support services primarily to the chartered banks of Canada. Also helps promote an understanding of the banking industry to the Canadian public, all levels of governments, international bodies, interest groups and the media. International and ComparativeThe World Bank GroupThis site deals with five organizations of the World Bank: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Information on the current activities of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and related topics is also provided. The Bank for International Settlements Contains information about the BIS: extracts from statutes, conventions and protocols concerning the Bank for International Settlements as well as press releases, and texts of selected BIS publications. The European Union's long-term lending institution has launched a website containing economic reports, ex-post evaluations, technical studies, country fact sheets and projects financed by the EIB.
