This article examines seven key areas where women’s rights are at risk in relation to mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV.  The first is that reduction of MTCT of HIV programmes overlook the mother in their attempts to protect the foetus.  The second is that women’s health is missing from the debate between breastfeeding and formula feeding by HIV positive mothers.  The third is the risk to the right to marry and found a family.  The fourth is the right to abortion.  The fifth is the danger of coerced abortions.  The sixth is the issue of mandatory testing of pregnant women for HIV.  The seventh is attack on women’s sexuality.  The article ends with a brief discussion on the efforts of the international community to protect these rights.
